Two different ways to replace a full arch

A removable denture rests on the gums and is taken out for cleaning. An All-on-4 bridge is attached to implants and is normally removed only by a clinician. Both can restore appearance and function, but they involve different surgery, maintenance and financial commitments.

Stability and feel

An implant-supported bridge may feel more stable than a conventional denture. However, the shape can be bulkier than natural teeth because it replaces teeth and missing gum volume. Speech and chewing require adaptation. A denture avoids implant surgery and is easier to remove for cleaning, but movement and coverage can affect comfort.

Cleaning and repairs

A fixed bridge is not maintenance-free. Patients must clean beneath it and attend reviews. Screws, teeth or bridge materials can require repair. Dentures also need cleaning, adjustment and eventual replacement as the mouth changes.

Making the decision

Compare medical suitability, bone, hand skills for cleaning, smoking, expectations and access to future maintenance. Ask for the non-implant alternative as part of informed consent. The best choice is the one that remains safe and maintainable for you, not simply the option shown most often in advertising.
